National Lottery Community Funding enables Shropshire people to join in Folklore inspired activities through Social Media.
Continuing in our recent work dedicated to celebrating the folklore and traditions of Shropshire and the pioneering work of three amazing women folklorists: Georgina Jackson, Charlotte Burne and Mary Webb we are very pleased to have been awarded ‘Awards for All’ funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. Originally the project was intended to support a series of ‘Kindful café’ activities related to Shropshire Folklore in local community settings culminating in a ‘Lammas’ celebration. However now, in view of the current social distancing restrictions, the grant will enable a much larger audience to join in with us through a series of short videos available to view from May Day through to Lammas. Local artists, musicians, writers, storytellers and folklorists will help you to celebrate the high points of the summer season online, through interpreting and sharing the work of Shropshire’s three folklorists Georgina Jackson, Charlotte Sophia Burne & Mary Webb in music, song, crafts, creative writing, reading groups, word walks, story and art.
We hope the project will not only entertain you but will also inform and encourage you to join in, search out and record your own folk memories and traditions.
We would like to thank National Lottery players for their support.
The first videos will be released on May 1st just after lunch and then on subsequent Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on our Facebook page FOLK, on our FOLK YouTube channel and on Instagram. Further details and updates can be found on FOLK’s Facebook page and on our Website News page. All you will need to do is get yourself a cuppa, listen in and be a part of celebrating a part of our wonderful cultural heritage.
